After a while you learn the subtle difference between holding a hand and changing a soul.

You learn that kisses aren't contracts and presents aren't promises.

You learn that loving doesn't mean leaning and company doesn't always mean security,

 and you learn that even sunshine burns if you get too much.

After a while you learn to build all your dreams on today

because tomorrow's ground is too uncertain for dreams,

and futures have a way of falling down in mid-flight.

After a while you learn to plant your own garden and decorate your own soul

instead of waiting for someone else to bring you flowers.

And you learn that you really are strong,

that you really do have self worth,

and you can endure,

and you learn and learn.

We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values.  We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery. 

We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare.  We have killed our unborn and called it choice. 

We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable. 

We have neglected to discipline our children and called it Building self esteem. 

We have abused power and called it politics.  We have coveted our neighbor's possessions and called it ambition. 

We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it Freedom of speech and expression. 

We have ridiculed the time honored values of our Forefathers and called it enlightenment.  Search us, Oh, God,

 and know our hearts today; Cleanse us from every sin and set us free.  Amen!"
